All clear in Houston

Filed under: Uncategorized — thefordyces @ 3:22 am

Just a quick note to let everyone know that we came through the storm without any significant damage or problems. Obviously, Jed’s first birthday party had to be postponed. But we once again have lights, phones and, obviously, Internet access, so we’re not complaining.

Thanks for the calls and e-mails from everyone checking on us. We’re fine and nearly back to normal. Our thoughts are on the many folks here in Houston without power (including our friends and family members).

Happy Birthday, Jed!

Filed under: Uncategorized — thefordyces @ 12:46 am

James Edwin Fordyce celebrates his first birthday today. Unfortunately, his party — originally planned for Saturday — is on hold. Hurricane Ike is rapidly approaching and we’ve been forced to postpone the party for a few weeks. I hope everyone can make it when we do eventually get together.

By the way, a quick note on the McCain hat. It’s not just Daddy that puts that on him. Whenever Daddy wears it, Jed crawls over, climbs up and takes it off Daddy’s head, and puts it on. He absolutely believes that the hat belongs to him, and it’s his favorite.

Have a safe weekend, everyone. Hopefully Ike will blow through quickly.

We’re back!

Filed under: Uncategorized — thefordyces @ 1:54 am

OK, I know it’s been a while. But things have been busy, so you’ll have to bear with us. For now, here’s a quick update on how everyone’s doing, and a photo or two.

First, Jerry has changed careers. He’s now teaching high school journalism at Tomball High School, and really enjoying it. Check back in December to see if he still feels that way after his first semester.

While Jerry is now a teacher, Melanie is still a student. She’s begun her final semester at South Texas College of Law, and will graduate in December. A massive graduation party is in the planning stages, so please plan a trip to Houston in mid-December. We’ll get out details later.

Emma is starting first grade and is doing very well. She just underwent a surgery on her lip, nose and throat, but is recovering nicely. Jed is getting bigger by the day, it seems. He’ll turn one next month (Sept. 10) and is already wearing 24-month clothes. He’s also already determined his candidate for the election:

For those able to attend, we’ll be playing host to Jed’s first birthday party on Sept. 13 at our house. Since his birthday falls during the first weeks of the football season, we have a football theme. Everyone should wear their favorite team gear. As Jed and Emma are demonstrating below:

Please let us know if you can make it!

Not giving peas a chance

Filed under: Uncategorized — thefordyces @ 4:30 pm

We had a great time for Halloween on Wednesday. The kids were supposed to be peas and carrot — Emma was the carrot, and Jed was the peapod (for about 2 minutes).

Emma and I made her costume, and our next-door neighbor, Heather, and I made her hat/sprouts. Not the best job, but we had fun in the process.

I was going to make the peapod, too, but then I found this costume at the fabric store for $7 and realized that I was crazy not to buy it. Maybe Jed has another opinion, though, I think he fussed every second he was in it.
